Utolanis Notebook
Editorial Standards

How the Notebook Works

Utolanis Notebook operates under the following editorial principles: articles are reviewed by at least one second editor before publication, sources are cited where appropriate, corrections are noted publicly, and writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter.

01 — Process

From Observation to Publication

01

Field Observation

Every piece begins with a documented observation: a pattern noticed in a food record, a seasonal shift in produce availability, a correlation between activity and appetite. The record precedes the analysis.

02

Literature Check

The observation is placed against the available nutritional research. Published dietary research is consulted to determine whether the observed pattern is consistent with, or diverges from, established nutritional understanding.

03

Editorial Review

Each draft is reviewed by a second editor before publication. The reviewer checks for factual accuracy, vocabulary precision, and that no prescriptive claims extend beyond what the evidence supports.

04

Publication & Record

The article is published with date, author name, and category clearly marked. Any subsequent correction is noted inline, with the original publication date retained for archival accuracy.

02 — Sources

How Sources Are Selected

Content published by Utolanis Notebook is selected based on published nutritional research and reviewed for editorial accuracy by a second editor before publication. The publication prioritises independent sources over commercially funded research.

Where no published research is directly relevant, the article is presented as observational rather than evidence-informed. The distinction is always made explicit within the text. Readers are not asked to accept observational record as established nutritional fact.

Sources are cited by author and publication where available. No source is used solely because it supports a preferred conclusion. Contradictory evidence is acknowledged and noted in the relevant section of the article.

Acceptable Source Types
  • Peer-reviewed nutritional research from independent publications
  • National dietary guidelines from recognised public institutions
  • Long-form observational records kept by the publication's own writers
  • Recognised nutrition literature with verifiable authorship
Not Accepted as Sources
  • Commercially sponsored nutritional studies with undisclosed funding
  • Single-case anecdotes presented as generalisable patterns
  • Content originating from product or supplement companies
03 — Accuracy

Corrections and Accuracy Policy

Inline Corrections

If a factual error is identified after publication, the correction is made within the article text and noted with a dated correction notice immediately below the relevant passage.

Date Retention

The original publication date is always retained. Corrections do not alter the publication date; they add a separate correction date alongside the updated passage.

Reader Reports

Readers who identify factual inaccuracies are invited to write to [email protected]. All corrections reports are reviewed within five working days.

04 — Review

The Editorial Review Process

Every article submitted to Utolanis Notebook is reviewed by a second editor before publication. The reviewer is drawn from the publication's core writing team and does not review their own work. The review covers four dimensions: factual accuracy, vocabulary precision, scope of claims, and editorial tone.

Factual accuracy review examines whether statements are supported by the sources cited. Vocabulary precision review checks that no terms with stop-word status have been introduced. Scope review ensures that no observational finding has been elevated to a universal claim. Tone review confirms that the piece reads as editorial rather than prescriptive.

Articles that fail any of these checks are returned to the writer with specific notes. Revision cycles continue until all four criteria are satisfied. The typical review cycle takes two to five working days.

Independence

Utolanis Notebook is an independent editorial publication focused on everyday nutrition practices and weight awareness. The publication is not affiliated with any commercial, governmental, or institutional body.

02

Writers are instructed to confine claims to what the available evidence supports. No article asserts that a dietary approach will produce a specific outcome. The language of probability and pattern is used in place of the language of certainty.

03
Disclosure

Writers disclose any commercial relationships that could influence their selection of subject matter. Such disclosures are noted at the end of the relevant article.

04
Content Notice

Articles published on Utolanis Notebook are editorial in nature and reflect the writers' observations on everyday nutrition practices and weight awareness. Readers with specific concerns about their daily routines are encouraged to speak with a qualified wellness professional.

05
